Caldwell 'open' to Turf Moor exit

urnley captain Steven Caldwell admits he is likely to be leaving the relegated Premier League club this summer. The 29-year-old, who led the Clarets to promotion to the top flight last year, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.Caldwell has played just twice since December due to injury and has had no discussions with manager Brian Laws over a new deal. The Scot told the club's website: "I am open to discussion."I like being where people want me - I'm not saying the manager doesn't, I just don't know. I haven't had any discussions."I'm willing to speak to anyone at any time, but obviously I have had no discussions so far so it seems I will probably be leaving."It's one of these things. Sometimes things change in football, people move on, clubs change. It is nobody's fault, it is a way of life."Caldwell joined Burnley, then managed by Steve Cotterill, from Sunderland in a £200,000 deal in January 2007.He then went on to play a key role in their subsequent success under Owen Coyle and although this season has proved a difficult experience, he is proud of the club's achievements.Caldwell added: "If I am totally honest, as I was coming in to Burnley to speak to Steve I was very unsure about what I was doing."It happened so quickly and I was thinking do I want to come here."Basically the way Steve spoke convinced me something was happening here, something special was on the go."I believed him and I am so pleased that I did because it has been the best three-and-a-half years of my career."
