Lennon eyes England recall

Aaron Lennon is hoping his recent return to form will help to rekindle his international dreams. The Tottenham youngster has been back to his fleet-footed best of late, helping Spurs to edge away from the Premier League relegation battle. His ability has never been in question, while his electric pace is a useful weapon at any level. However, he has been unable to maintain a consistent level of performance over the course of the past couple of seasons and has drifted in and out of both the Tottenham and England set-up.He has also seen Theo Walcott and Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ashley Young overtake him in the race to become David Beckham's long-term successor on the right wing for the Three Lions. But, he believes he is still capable of forcing his way into Fabio Capello's plans for the upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifiers."When did I last play for England? I can't really remember, a good while ago, maybe the Andorra game in Spain when it ended 3-0," Lennon told the News of the World on his last international outing back in March 2007."Hopefully I will get called up this time. I feel I am coming into my best form.Experience"I think I've had a good season, probably my most consistent since I have been at Tottenham."It was a great experience playing in the 2006 World Cup but then I got injuries and my form dropped off."I was in and out of the Spurs side so it's hard to get picked."But now I just want to get into the England squad and try to hold down a place in the team."For the past few years people have spoken about Theo, Shaun Wright-Phillips and myself getting that position on the right. But none of us have done enough to seal it."Now is the time but it's going to be difficult because Beckham is still around."Yes I want Beckham's place but as a young player I am still happy he is in the squad. I realise there are areas of my game I must improve on and, hopefully, by having Becks around I can learn some things from him."
