Pennant focused on beating drop

Jermaine Pennant is keen to focus on keeping Portsmouth in the Premier League before resolving his own future. The winger is on loan at Fratton Park from Liverpool until the end of the season with his Anfield contract due to expire in the summer.Rather than concerning himself with where he will be plying his trade next term, the former Notts County and Arsenal man has set his sights on preserving Pompey's top-flight status. The South Coast club have slipped into the bottom three ahead of Saturday's vital trip to fellow strugglers Middlesbrough, although they have a game in hand on all their rivals.ImportantPennant said: "It's too early to think about staying beyond the summer at the moment. "I have got more important things to think about than me staying or going."I have got a job to do here to try to keep Portsmouth in the Premier League. "If I do that, then I can think about my future afterwards."Pennant was brought to Fratton Park by Tony Adams but played just three times under the Gunners legend before he was axed after a poor run of results.Paul Hart and Brian Kidd have taken over managerial duties until the end of the season and Pennant is happy to play under the new duo.ActionPennant said: "Tony got me here, but if results aren't going your way then the board are going to take action. "You can always say that maybe he needed more time, but that's football. "A lot of managers have been through the same thing as Tony and got the sack."Paul Hart and Brian Kidd have come in and done well."
