Police apology did not go far enough, says furious Anichebe

Angry response: Anichebe and a friend were wrongly accusedEverton'sinjured striker Victor Anichebe says a police apology did not go far enough after he and a friend were wrongly accused of attempting to steal from a Cheshire jewellers. Police officers tried to grab Anichebe's crutches to stop him 'escaping' after they were directed to the store in Knutsford by CCTV operators who reported two men acting 'suspiciously'. Anichebe, 20, was outside the store with a friend, who was handcuffed during the incident. Both were involved in what police described as a 'heated dialogue' with officers, but neither was detained. Police apologised and said an officer had been 'advised' about his action. Anichebe said that, while he welcomed the police apology, he did not feel 'it constitutes the unreserved apology we were seeking and which we believe is justified under the circumstances'. He added: 'I asked the officers if they would have taken the action they did had I been white rather than black.'
