Halford puts future on hold

Sheffield United midfielder Greg Halford insists that he is putting thoughts of his long-term future on hold as he looks to help the Blades achieve promotion. The 24-year-old is currently on loan from Sunderland until the end of the season and a permanent move to Bramall Lane has been mooted. But the former Colchester ace has admitted that he has other options available to him and he will only consider them at the end of the season. The Blades currently sit fourth in the Championship, eight points off an automatic promotion place as they look to get back into the Premier League."I've been asked this question a lot and I will always say the same thing in that coming here on a permanent basis is an option for me," Halford told skysports.com.Paper talk"It is a really nice option for me to have, but not the only one available to me. I haven't spoken to Kevin Blackwell about it and it is purely paper talk at the moment."I'm sure I'll sit down with both Ricky Sbragia and Kevin about what their plans are and where I fit in with those plans, but at the minute I'm just concentrating on playing for the Blades and helping them fight for promotion."After being in and around the play-offs all season, United have not been lower than eighth since the end of September, Halford admits he is not even contemplating missing out on the top six."We are not thinking about missing out on the top six because that would be such a disappointment it isn't worth thinking about," he added."We are aiming for the top two and the play-offs are a nice thing to fall back on should we miss out on the top two."But missing out on the play-offs isn't an option for us really."
