Vidic demands United raise their game for Liverpool's Old Trafford visit

Nemanja Vidic is convinced Manchester Unitedwill not be so casual against Liverpoolon Saturday as they were against Inter Milan. It was far from a vintage European night from United as they rode their luck at times in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash with Jose Mourinho's Serie A leaders at Old Trafford.   Inter twice struck the woodwork through Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano. Fortunately for the reigning European champions, a goal at the start of each half from Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo - scoring their sixth and 16th goals of this season respectively - paved their way into the quarter-finals.   The only way is up: Vidic wants more from United against LiverpoolIt means the Quintuple is still on for Sir Alex Ferguson, who must now turn his attention to the visit of Liverpool, knowing a victory will virtually end Rafael Benitez's Premier League hopes.   But defender Vidic insists United must improve on Wednesday night's display if they are to move 10 points clear, and virtually out of sight of Liverpool.   'We need to forget Inter now,' demanded Vidic. 'Liverpool is the next big game we must play, and they are in good form, full of confidence. They had a great win against Real Madrid (4-0 on Tuesday).   'But we're at home in front of our crowd, and I think, I hope we are going to be much better than we were against Inter.   'We will definitely try to improve, to erase the mistakes we made and play better against Liverpool.'   Vidic refused to be drawn on whether a United win would bring the curtain down on Liverpool's title hopes.   'I don't like to say,' added the 27-year-old Serb. 'If we win we will be 10 points in front of them, but I don't like to think that far.' English football's greatest rivalry: A trip down sport's memory lane with Manchester United and LiverpoolNow bring on United: Liverpool striker Torres taunts title rivals after Real routMan Utd 2 Inter 0 (agg 2-0): Ronaldo caps special show to put United throughShowboaters: United through but Fergie admits - We could have blown itMANCHESTER UNITED FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NETLIVERPOOL FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET
