Edman admits monetary mistake

Erik Edman has retuned money wrongly awarded to him by former club Heerenveen. The Wigan defender spent three years with the Eredivisie outfit before securing a move to Tottenham in 2004.The Swede believed he was entitled to part of the fee which took him to England and was granted the money in court after Heerenvenn contested the claim. However, he has since discovered that his former employers were right and has sought to resolve the matter."I was wrong. I was misguided," he told the Dutch club's official website."At that time I didn't know what kind of games are played in the football world. I have made a big mistake and I want to make up for that as much as possible."Edman has, however, been unable to return the full amount after making a payment to his agent.MistakeHe added: "I regret it that things went as they did in the past. Heerenveen have been very important in my career."I can't make up for my mistake entirely, because part of that money went to my agent. But my part has been deposited by me to Heerenveen."Heerenveen are understandably delighted to see the issue laid to rest, with club director Yme Kuiper full of praise for Edman's honesty."We always knew that we were right and we have proved that now," he said."The fact Edman himself contacted us is special and typifies the person he is."Not everyone would handle it like this. It is nice that this case is out of the way. Edman is very welcome at Heerenveen again."
