Rangers warned over Goodwillie interest

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has told Rangers they would be wasting their time bidding £750,000 for striker David Goodwillie. Scotland Under-21 international Goodwillie, who was this week named Clydesdale Bank Young Player of the Year, has been linked with a summer switch to Ibrox. But Thompson said: "We have had absolutely no contact from Rangers about David Goodwillie or any other player, that's the first thing I would say."Regarding the money being talked about, any club bidding that amount would be wasting their time because it would take a lot more than that to make us give a bid serious consideration."If that is all someone could offer, they should not bother, though I would stress the player is on a long-term contract and our wish is to keep him at Dundee United."Thompson also responded to complaints about ticket and hospitality prices for next month's Scottish final. Some fans have moaned about tickets costing as much as £35, but Thompson pointed out most adults will get into Hampden for £25, with children paying even less."Prices are maybe a touch high, but I know they are down on last year's final and we have secured 5,000 family section tickets with the promise of more if needed," Thompson said."And we are certainly not snubbing hospitality at Hampden. What we are doing, like we have always done for big games there, is put together a package that will involve us stopping at Parkhead on the way."Meanwhile, manager Peter Houston believes Morgaro Gomis' forthcoming two-match ban will prove a blessing in disguise.Senegal midfielder Gomis will miss the final two games of the SPL season against Hearts and Hibernian. But Houston, whose side have already secured a Europa League spot, is confident that will ensure the 24-year-old is fresh for the cup final."Normally it's a blow when a player is banned for a couple of games but I have to say this is one I am not concerned about at all," Houston said in the Evening Telegraph."Morgaro has played a lot this season and it will do him no harm at all to have a wee break. The fact the two games he misses are only four days apart means he won't go a long time without playing."I'm sure it means, when he gets to Hampden, he'll be 100% and desperate to play well."Gomis' fellow midfielder Scott Robertson is unlikely to feature in anything but a cameo role for the rest of the season as he continues his recovery from a long-term pelvic injury. The 25-year-old made his comeback in Sunday's win at Motherwell and Houston said: "We won't be rushing him into anything and he is quite a way away from being considered for a full 90 minutes."It is great to have him back in the squad, though, and he is someone I will have on the bench when I think we could use him, and that would include the cup final."
