Liverpool FC chairman Martin Broughton on his plans to oversee club sale

New Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton today promised that with time and patience he would deliver a bright new future for Liverpool FC.In an exclusive interview with the ECHO - within minutes of the Reds being put up for sale today - the British Airways chairman explained how and why he hoped to release the club's as yet untapped potential.Broughton, a life-long Chelsea fan, stressed he will not be full time at Anfield and will not oversee day-to -day running of club affairs, which will be left to managing director Christian Purslow, commercial director Ian Ayre and other senior executives.Broughton said: "I am not an executive chairman - Christian Purslow, Ian Ayre and Philip Nash are the key players."It is a great team running the club and they will continue to run the club."I'm coming in as chairman with the principal responsibility to oversee a sale."Christian will be running the club and it is his field to deal with the issues there."All I would say is that for the players as well as the fans, this is a fresh start."
