Robin van Persie glosses over Gunners! Arsenal have improved this season, claims hitman

Another season, another campaign without a trophy at the Emirates, but Arsenal striker Robin van Persie still believes the side have improved since last season. The striker's second-half cameo on Wednesday night against Tottenham - after five months out with ruptured ankle ligaments - showed supporters just what they have been missing since November and would have swung the game in Arsenal's favour but for some outstanding saves from Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted his team were 'inefficient' and lacked maturity until the Holland striker's introduction in the 68th minute, yet both he and his 26-year-old star striker insist the side have improved this year. Flying Dutchman: Gomes pulled off a top save to deny van Persie from scoring Van Persie said: 'There's definitely been an improvement, if you look at last year. No one really expected this. 'But when you are this close you really want to win it. When you don't do that it is frustrating.' Last season the Gunners finished 18 points behind champions Manchester United and were humbled by Chelsea and United in thesemi-finals of the FA Cup and Champions League. This season, the gulf in class has been less apparent - althoughLiverpool's demise, the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea'sinconsistent form may have been more influential factors than Arsenal'sdevelopment. Have we got Nou for you Arsenal!
