Utd eye South American starlet

Argentinian side Banfield claim they are awaiting contact from Manchester United regarding a possible interest in midfielder Nicolas Bertolo. The 23-year-old offensive midfielder is understood to have caught the eye of the English, European and world champions as they plan for summer reinforcements.United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has a South American scouting network and it is reported that representatives of the club will be at Banfield's meeting with Rosario Central this weekend.Lazio failed in an attempt to sign Bertolo - who is valued at around £2million - on loan in January, and Banfield's sporting director Hector Clide has now declared that he is expecting an approach from United."I am aware of the subject and it is not unusual because the kid has had a good year," Clide told TyC Sports."We expect news about this subject."Bertolo is half owned by Banfield, while former club Boca Juniors also hold a 50 per cent share of the player.
