The Republic of Ireland international became the first Reading player to score in nearly 10 hours of action when he nodded home the equaliser in Tuesday night's 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.
Murty - back at the Madejski after a calf injury ended his loan spell at Charlton - told the Reading Evening Post: "I am delighted Doyle scored. A fit and flying Kevin Doyle is the biggest attribute any club could hope to have.
"He offers so much. He is not only a goal threat, he is a great lad to have around the place, a willing worker and a talented player.
"We need him fit and flying and scoring goals and hopefully he can carry that on now until the end of the season."
