Edu: Points are all that matters

Maurice Edu was quick to point out that results are all that matters after his goal earned Rangers a scrappy 1-0 win over Hamilton on Saturday. Edu admits it was far from a vintage display from Rangers against an Accies side who felt they deserved a point after a James McArthur effort was ruled offside.Edu, though, is not bothered."It wasn't the greatest performance but we're pleased to get the three points and edge closer to retaining the title," said the USA midfielder."We would like a good performance in every game but, at this stage of the season, it comes down getting the results when you need them and we were able to do that."Edu's goal followed the memorable winner he netted against Celtic in February and he has targeted more before the end of the season. He said: "It's nice to help the team out by getting a goal."It was good play leading up to it and luckily I was able to get on the end of it and finish the ball off."I think it's important to chip in with goals from the midfield and Lee McCulloch has done that well this season and has a few goals already."When I come into the team, I just try to help out whenever possible and, if I can get a goal, that's the icing the cake."To get the goal that ended up winning the game was a great feeling and hopefully there is more to come."Injury problems have meant less game time than he would have liked this season but Edu believes his lack of games can help push a battle-weary Rangers side over the finish line.He said: "It's been a long season and because we have a small squad there haven't been as many changes and a lot of the guys have played a lot of minutes."Me coming in at this late stage of the season, having missed so much of the season, it's like I'm just getting started."I'm eager to play and bring a little bit of freshness."Meanwhile, Hamilton skipper Alex Neil believes McArthur can be a success in the Premier League as he prepares for a trial at Wigan. He said: "If he does as well as everyone at our club thinks he can do, then there is no reason why he can't go down there and play at that level."He's only 22 but he has played 150 games so he is experienced. People look at his age and think he is a young kid but he has played a lot of football."I think his performances show that, he knows what he's doing."And Neil insists life will go on at Hamilton if McArthur does opt for a move south this summer. He added: "It was the same as James McCarthy last year, he was a great player and he moved down to Wigan and has done great."But the club moves on and that's just the nature of football."We give these young lads an opportunity to show what they can do and, if they are good enough, they will move on and play at a higher level."
