Smith expects to battle on at Ibrox

Walter Smith has revealed there is a chance he will be forced to work without a contract at Rangers next season. The SPL leaders face an uncertain future, with financial troubles shrouding events at Ibrox.Takeover talk has been ongoing for some time, but prospective buyer Andrew Ellis continues to stall in his efforts to acquire the club from majority shareholder Sir David Murray.Any sale of the club was expected to see Smith step down over the summer. However, the veteran coach insists he is going nowhere and will remain at the helm for as long as he is needed."We have made it quite clear we will work until things are clarified. That's what we will probably end up doing," Smith told the Daily Record. With no offer of an extension to his current deal on the table, Smith admits there is a chance the Ibrox coaching staff will continue to operate without contracts next term."Yes, I suppose there is," he said."I wouldn't like to see it happening. But I don't look at it from my point of view, I look at it from the club's point of view. It's not a situation you would want. If we get a buyer and Sir David is happy to let the place go, that's fine."Smith is hoping the distracting episode will be resolved as quickly as possible, as he knows more cuts are planned if a takeover is not completed soon.He added: "I don't know about my future or anybody's future."A whole load of things are needing to be adjusted to at the present and we're not quite sure exactly what's going to happen."I've said in conversations the matter has to get sorted out sooner rather than later."I'm not talking about from my position. Everybody has to know where the club is going and that's where I feel there's an element of pressure. Everybody should be starting to feel that bit of pressure."There's a plan there that will fall into place and that's not a plan I would like to see implemented because it involves more cuts. But if we don't get a buyer that's what will happen."
