Sorensen eyeing top ten finish

Thomas Sorensen has set his sights on Stoke finishing in the top half of the Premier League after they created their own slice of history. Tony Pulis' side equalled their best top flight away run for 30 years when they fought out a goalless draw with Wolves at Molineux on Sunday. It extended their sequence of games without defeat away from the Britannia Stadium to six and they have tasted defeat in just two of 14 league encounters in 2010.Goalkeeper Sorensen has been a key part of that sequence after Stoke struggled on their travels during their first season back amongst the elite. The Danish international said: "We've had three clean sheets in a row now. That is great for the team and we've picked up another point away from home, with another solid performance, and that is what we want."We've got 43 points so we are a win away from improving on our tally for last season. That is the first aim."Now we also want to see if we can finish in the top half of the table. That is the main aim for the last five games."I'm told we have equalled our best away run for 30 years and I think that is where we have improved this season."At home we have never struggled but, away from home last season, we just gave too much initiative to the other teams and sat back."Now we have grown in confidence, we take the game to teams away from home as well, and it is a great statement, that we haven't lost for six away games in a row."Stoke's unbeaten sequence was never seriously threatened by Wolves who denied them any clear-cut chances. But Sorensen admits matches where he is a virtual spectator for long periods are more difficult than when he is involved in the thick of the action. He said: "It was a tight game. For 80% of the time, we were the most dangerous but they had a couple of chances at the end and could have snatched it."We kept Wolves quiet. We knew their game plan, to get the runners forward from midfield with Matt Jarvis coming inside. As long as we were tight, then it really wasn't a problem."The easy games are the ones where you are in action all the time."But the ones where you don't touch the ball for a long time, and know for just one split second you have to be ready, are the hardest games."The Wolves game was one of those but I thought we coped really well."Stoke will have a say in the outcome of the title as they have to play Chelsea and Manchester United before the end of the campaign. But, although the former Aston Villa keeper accepts Chelsea are current favourites, he is aware there could still be more twists and turns.Sorensen said: "We have a difficult finish with Manchester United and Chelsea away."But we know we can have a say in the title race and that should be motivation enough to go into those games and give it our best shot."Chelsea are in the driving seat but it can turn so quickly. We will wait and see."
