Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio sets sights on World Cup

Juan Carlos Osorio has vowed to secure World Cup qualification after being officially unveiled as Mexico head coach on Wednesday. Osorio replaces caretaker boss Ricardo Ferretti, who had been in caretaker charge since the summer after replacing Miguel Herrera. The latter was dismissed after allegedly punching a reporter after Mexico's Gold Cup triumph in July.Former New York Red Bulls head coach Osorio resigned as boss of Brazilian side Sao Paulo last week in order to take up the national team role and promised to guide El Tri to Russia 2018 at his official unveiling in Mexico City on Wednesday. "First of all I want to take this opportunity to thank the Mexican Football Federation for giving us this great opportunity, for believing in us and trusting us," he told the Mexican Football Federation website. "We understand the great responsibility to the Mexican people, which is a football nation par excellence that historically has produced great football stars, and we will give everything to ensure that we will go to the next World Cup in Russia in 2018." Osorio's first game in charge is a World Cup qualifier at home against El Salvador on November 14.
