The Bantams were made to work hard for their win, with Dean Furman grabbing the only goal.
McCall said: "It was never going to be a classic with the conditions as they were on a windy night, but I was pleased with the performance and the spirit and the endeavour were good."
City had taken only one point from their previous three matches and McCall added: "It was a massive three points and we thoroughly deserved our win.
"It was exactly how I thought the game would go with Macclesfield playing five big lads across the back with no real attacking intent in the team. It could have been a frustrating night, but the crowd stayed with us.
"We kept up the tempo and we scored a lovely goal through Dean Furman and we could have scored more."
