Johnson frustrated after draw

Johnson threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the visitors, sending on flying winger Ivan Sproule and striker Stern John before his final change saw giant centre-back Jamie McCombe go on as an extra forward. But Blackpool, inspired by dominant skipper Shaun Barker, defended with great resolve to take an unexpected point.Johnson said: "There is a huge sense of frustration, not least because other results went our way and we missed an opportunity to strengthen our position."Blackpool came with a game plan and credit to them for the way they stuck to it. But we needed to be on our game a lot earlier."We had some good second-half chances, but it needed the substitutions to put them under real pressure and that was disappointing."We haven't lost ground in the promotion race, which is some consolation. We have a big week ahead with visits to Birmingham and Derby and every game at this stage of the season is crucial."Blackpool caretaker boss Tony Parkes was full of praise for his side after making four changes to the team beaten 2-0 at home by Watford."This is a huge result for us against a top-six side who may well make the play-offs again," he said."Our back four and goalkeeper were outstanding. I knew I had to make changes after the last game and I got the response I was looking for."We have a derby clash with Burnley on Tuesday night and can now go into that game in high spirits on the back of a really good performance."Other results didn't go for us, but we cannot affect what other clubs do. We have added to our points tally and have 11 vitally important matches ahead of us."The introduction of Sproule in the 56th minute almost broke the deadlock as within seconds he fed Gavin Williams, who fired the best chance of the game wide.Louis Carey headed wide for City and a John header was cleared off the line by David Vaughan as the home side pressed for the winner.McCombe almost scored with his first touch, heading inches over from a Michael McIndoe free-kick.McIndoe forced a fingertip save from Paul Rachubka, while City goalkeeper Adriano Basso had to make second-half stops to deny Vaughan and substitute Graeme Owens.Blackpool played mainly on the break, but had a lively performer in DJ Campbell up front and played their part in an open contest. But it was the blond-haired Barker who most caught the eye for the visitors at the back, winning most of his aerial battles after defensive partner Ian Evatt had been forced off with a first-half knee injury."Ian felt something in his knee, but we don't think it's much and he should be okay to face Burnley," added Parkes.
