O'Shea ready for tough cup test

John O'Shea expects a tough Carling Cup battle against Tottenham despite Manchester United being the favourites to lift the trophy. With the Red Devils' bid for the quintuple continuing in Sunday's cup clash, few have given Spurs any chance of derailing the in-form Premier League and European champions. But versatile defender O'Shea is not buying into the theory that Tottenham will be a walkover. "We will be put down as clear favourites but it is going to be a lot tighter than people think," the Irishman said. "They are the holders and like us they know what it takes to win it and we know how pleasing it is. I am sure they will want to experience that again." It is three years since United achieved the last of their two solitary triumphs in the competition and O'Shea sees the Wembley final as an opportunity not to be missed. He added: "You never know what happens in your career. It could be your last one so you must make sure you try to win it." With youngsters Danny Welbeck, Darron Gibson and Fabio likely to start, the 27-year-old had some advice for his team-mates to not get overwhelmed by the occasion. He said: "You have to try to soak the atmosphere up fairly quickly. "But friends and family will be there and the whole thing can bypass you a little bit. "That is where the experience of the manager and older players comes in to make sure everyone is settled and calm. "We want the young ones to deal with the nerves and show how good they are."
