'It is hard for a young lad when you see players bought in. I was in the reserves but I wanted to play higher than that. 'But there is no point moping. I realised I had to work harder and stop sulking. This season I have come in more positive and worked harder.' Gibson has caught the eye with a succession of pleasing performances, emphasising why Republic coach Giovanni Trapattoni wanted him in his squad. Now he is facing up to the biggest day of his career. As Ferguson has not actually told the Derry-born youngster he will be involved, Gibson is trying not to build his hopes up. But that suits him just fine as he tries to keep his nerves under control. 'I haven't thought too much about Wembley because if I did I think I might too nervous,' he said.
