Fulop rewarded with new deal

Hungarian goalkeeper Marton Fulop has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with Sunderland. The deal will keep the reliable shot-stopper at Stadium of Light until the summer of 2012.Fulop is currently keeping £9million man Craig Gordon out of Ricky Sbragia's side, benefiting from the Scot's mid-season injury. He has started 20 of the club's last 22 games and admits he had no qualms with extending his stay on Wearside.Fulop said: "I am delighted to sign. I am pleased with the progress the club has made and I am delighted that I got my chance in the team. I am happy to commit."The 25-year-old joined Sunderland from Tottenham in November 2005 as part of the deal which took Ben Alnwick in the opposite direction. He has been forced to bide his time since as he waited for his opportunity to arise, but has greatly impressed everyone connected with the Black Cats this term.Sbragia said: "Marton has been excellent and this is reward for him."You need two top-class keepers and we think we have got that. They will push each other to higher levels."
