Higdon urges Bairns to keep calm

John Hughes broached the subject of relegation with his squad this week after last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Hamilton left them just one point above rejuvenated bottom club Inverness.Higdon is confident Falkirk can still rise to the position of Saturday's opponents, seventh-placed Hibernian. But he recognises the need to play without fear."The Hamilton game was a big disappointment and we just need to pick up quickly," the Liverpudlian said."When they made it 1-1, a lot of anxiety came into our play."The position we are in is having a knock-on effect with everyone, a lack of confidence or whatever."But if you saw us train, you wouldn't think we were in the position we are, but we have to take that out on to the pitch."It's just where we are in the table. We are only a point ahead of Inverness and you have to look at relegation realistically."If you don't perform, there is a chance you are going to go down. That's when the anxiety comes in."But we're not thinking about going down. If we win a couple of games, we are near sixth again."We are just under-achieving, we have just got to stick at it."The lads are working tremendously hard to try and resurrect it."Higdon, 25, has experienced relegation with Crewe - but he claims Falkirk are nowhere near the same predicament."We got relegated from the Championship," Higdon said."We had been in the Championship for nine years and it wasn't a nice feeling."But with the resources down there for a team like Crewe against all the big boys in that league, we were always favourites to go down. It was an achievement every time we stayed up."It wasn't a nice feeling but there's no possibility of us going down."It hasn't entered my head to get relegated with the squad we have got."Falkirk face a Hibs team whose fans are disgruntled after they slipped out of the top six following their defeat at Inverness. And Higdon has urged the Bairns fans to inspire them to another win in Edinburgh to follow their recent Homecoming Scottish Cup triumph at Hearts. He said: "We had two good performances recently against Aberdeen and especially Hearts away, and I think the main point about us beating Hearts was the way the fans got behind us."I know it's hard for fans to see poor performances, especially against Hamilton - we were terrible - but if they stick with us, that gives us the best chance."
