Boss relieved to 'stop the rot'

Midfielder Ryan Gilligan put the Cobblers ahead on the stroke of half-time before managerless Brighton rescued a point with a second-half header from Tommy Elphick.Gray said: "We almost gifted Brighton the win in the end and after the last two or three minutes, I'm happy to get the draw."But we should have been comfortable early on and should have been 2-0 ahead at half-time. At the interval I thought the three points were definitely available to us. But a draw has stopped the rot."Both sides were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute after Brighton utility-man Adam Virgo and Northampton's Adebayo Akinfenwa were dismissed for violent conduct. The duo tangled on the halfway line following an initial challenge by Akinfenwa on Adam El-Abd.And Gray admitted: "The referee confirmed that no punches were thrown. It was a wrestling match and a case of chests out and pushing. Both teams now lose a player for three games and we can't do anything about it."
