HATCHET MAN: Smiles better at Sunderland with Ricky instead of Roy

Roy Keane seems so wrapped up in being football's macho man that he cannot think straight about the game. By claiming that Sunderland should have employed Roy Chubby Brown if they wanted a manager to put smiles on their players' faces, he comes across as a caricature. Different approach: Sbragia (left) doesn't work in the same way as Keane Keane made himself look like the sport's cartoon hardman last Sunday with ridiculous and juvenile statements to justify his departure from the Stadium of Light.   More from Hatchet Man. HATCHET MAN: Plastic pitches and reserve teams: Don't Villa and Spurs just love the UEFA Cup experience?26/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Happy, injury-free and motivated - childish Drogba forgets to complain and hobble now Guus rules the Stamford Bridge roost 26/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Toure, late for the game, late to ditch moneybags City, late to pledge loyalty to the Gunners - what a loyal club man he is26/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Cut out the mock shock Rafa - you're no naive victim in the Liverpool contract battle26/02/09 HATCHET MAN: There's nothing special about Mourinho any more - Inter looked second-rate against United25/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Memo to Martin O'Neill - You're either a poor manager or Aston Villa are a poor side25/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Torres is no toro, he's a whippet so bully-boy Pepe's threat to snuff out the 'big powerful' Liverpool man is Real-ly stupid25/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Carling Cup Final boost for Spurs as worse Brazilian keeper than Gomes unearthed in Spain25/02/09 HATCHET MAN: Unprofessional Toure should be told: This is the Champions League, not the Sunday League25/02/09 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE  None of it added up though. Absenteeism management doesn't - and clearly didn't - work in the end, and if he didn't have coaching staff who backed him up at Sunderland, that is a management problem he should have fixed. Keane may not have wanted to pander to his Sunderland players and seems to think his replacement, Ricky Sbragia, is too chummy with them. Now his successor may be extremely boring in comparison to Keane and he has made decisions the Irishman wouldn't have, but he has put smiles on a few faces in a way that would have been novel towards the end of Keane's reign: by guiding them close to safety. Keane: Why I had to walk away from Sunderland and footballArsenal 0 Sunderland 0: New Arshavin but same old story.SUNDERLAND FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET
