Steven Gerrard has just been unveiled as an LA Galaxy player and Liverpool fans are sad

It may look weird, but this is reality now. Stevie is a G. http://t.co/ELklX0a4LA pic.twitter.com/oPo4rrF3Tt — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 Steven Gerrard has had his *second* official unveiling as an LA Galaxy player, at a press conference after his first week training with the team. His beloved Liverpool were spoken about almost as much as his new club, including when he was asked why he chose the Galaxy and MLS, rather than other Premier League and European clubs. Gerrard said: “I didn’t want to compete against Liverpool. I love Liverpool Football Club.” He also made it clear just how hard he’s willing to work in LA, the experience he’s hoping to bring to his new club and that there really hasn’t been any difference in the standard of training. Although he said he wasn’t yet able to say the same about the league, as he’s not due to make his debut until Saturday. Liverpool fans who watched the press conference are feeling a bit emotional… Just watched the Steven Gerrard press conference in full. Damn I miss him so much already. We should have done more to keep him. — Jatty Johal (@Jatty09Johal) July 7, 2015 Seeing the LA Galaxy badge next to Gerrard's name looks so wrong — Kieron (@KieronRomero) July 7, 2015 Watching the Gerrard press conference had me nearly crying 😥 💔 #RodgersOut — Ewan (@1albagubrath) July 7, 2015 And the Galaxy themselves weren’t exactly helpful, tweeting out a picture of their new signing captioned with the words to a song the Kop have sung faithfully for the last 17 years. Steve Gerrard, Gerrard… pic.twitter.com/659EvMivyT — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 The whole day had been filled with the LA franchise building up to Gerrard’s unveiling, and the responses have been a nice mixture between mildly amusing and very bitter. Gearing up. pic.twitter.com/cqyp1gHPs5 — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 @LAGalaxy I hate your club — Sunny [SDMN] (@sunnylfc7) July 7, 2015 The action shot of Stevie tying his laces was followed up by this rather cinematic one of him making his way out onto the training pitch. Here he comes. pic.twitter.com/iJ2SYw0aDi — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 Whoever runs the Galaxy’s social media was clearly getting irritated with all the comments. @LiverpoolGFN we are not going to stop posting pictures of our team tbh — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 There were some customary Stevie G stretches, and a reunion that almost certainly isn’t as big anywhere as it is in LA. Reunited and it feels so good. pic.twitter.com/woOEc1LcDM — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 @owsjawge no — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 A picture of him doing what he’s actually over there to do. From Liverpool to LA. pic.twitter.com/fMnfRCXHHn — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 @LAGalaxy you don't even know him. stop acting like you do. — TheCoutinhoRoleâ„¢ (@TheCoutinhoRole) July 7, 2015 And some relaxation after the day’s training, which of course wouldn’t be complete without Herbalife. Act natural lads. Refueling with @Herbalife24 after today’s training session. pic.twitter.com/yk8Pkg7Ohw — LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 7, 2015 He’d actually already been out onto the pitch during Galaxy’s recent 4-0 thumping of Toronto, and it was obvious that Hollywood has been rubbing off on him. Overall it’s been a very enjoyable day for Galaxy fans, and a painful one for Liverpool supporters. Luckily, they’re used to that. Stop please stop RT “@LAGalaxy: Steve Gerrard, Gerrard… pic.twitter.com/hjsfHIdD8P” — Seputar Liverpool FC (@Seputar_LFC) July 7, 2015 Lastly, please stop showing me pictures of Steven Gerrard in LA Galaxy kit. It hurts….it really hurts — Randi Bright (@randibrights) July 7, 2015 Can't cope watching Gerrard in LA. — Antony Shimmin (@Antynwa) July 7, 2015 Time heals all wounds, but Liverpool fans will be hoping they get a good start to the season to accelerate the healing process. We fear a bit for Brendan Rodgers if not.
