Hughton pleased with point

ewcastle coach Chris Hughton was delighted with his side's effort in the 0-0 draw at home to Everton on Sunday. The Magpies were reduced to ten men a minute before the interval when midfielder Kevin Nolan was sent off for stamping down on Toffees' striker Victor Anichebe.Despite the disadvantage the hosts held firm and restricted Everton to long range shots which rarely troubled goalkeeper Steve Harper. The draw moves Newcastle up to 14th, five points from the relegation places."To go down to ten men and to come through the 90 or 93 minutes with Everton having limited opportunities, that's testament for this group of lads, " Hughton told Sky Sports 1."We must go on and build on this."ApologyThe Magpies coach, in charge of first team affairs alongside fellow coach Colin Calderwood until manager Joe Kinnear recovers from heart surgery, also defended Nolan."He's very apologetic and over the short time he has been here we think he is an honest lad," he added."We now that Kevin has apologised and that has been accepted."The former Tottenham coach also believed that his side could have snatched the win when striker Peter Lovenkrands placed his shot wide with the goal at his mercy."The bench was already up in the air," he admitted."It was the best chance of the match and also probably the best move of the game."
