Reid admits defeat in Yantorno chase

Hibs gave permission for the Uruguayan midfielder, 26, to join Accies until the end of the season. But it has emerged his capture would have been in breach of Scottish Premier League rules, which state a club can only take one player older than 21 on loan at a time.Hamilton have already signed Paul McGowan from Celtic until the summer, meaning they would have had to engineer a permanent move for Yantorno. But it appears Hibs were unwilling to sanction such a deal, even if Accies had been willing to return the midfielder at the end of the campaign.Reid said: "They allowed us to take Yantorno, he trained yesterday with the team and made an impression."But, unfortunately, due to red tape, Fabian won't join the club."We're a wee bit frustrated and disappointed about that."Reid added: "We spoke to Hibs and we've already got one over-21 loan player in our squad. So the deal would have had to have been done slightly different to just a loan deal and then he could've gone back to Hibs."Hibs, I thought, agreed with that and things have changed a wee bit."Unfortunately, the deal won't go through."It is the second time in a week Reid has suffered transfer disappointment after defender Izzy Iriekpen pulled out of a move to New Douglas Park."We didn't put out the press that Iriekpen was going to sign for us," Reid explained."Izzy Iriekpen phoned me after the press knew about it saying he was going to sign for us."And when he's told me that, I think he should stand by his word but he didn't do that."Meanwhile, Reid will be without David Elebert for up to a month due to a hamstring tear, which saw him miss Sunday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League win at Kilmarnock.Fellow defender Jordan McMillan, who is on loan for Rangers, will miss Saturday's clash with Hearts with a hamstring strain.
