Referee defends late postponement

Ward called off the game just over an hour before kick-off due to concerns over a frozen section of the pitch at Sincil Bank.He later told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "There were areas which were still frozen and although the club had heaters on it, it hadn't thawed enough."It was a relatively small area and although both managers wanted the game to go ahead, my priority had to be the players' safety."Based on the weather forecast I could not have made an earlier decision to prevent Darlington travelling."Lincoln manager Peter Jackson added: "It's frustrating. We wanted the game to go ahead so I'm disappointed and I'm sure Dave (Penney, the Darlington manager) is as well."
