Glover explains Lawrie absence

The striker, who only recently turned 18, has started just once since being handed his full debut against Wycombe in November, albeit making a further four appearances from the bench including a goalscoring cameo during the 3-0 win over Chester at the end of January. Some fans have called for the Northern Ireland Under-21 international to be given an extended run in the side but Glover feels he has to be eased in and given his chance when the time is right."Younger players are sometimes put straight in. But, as our form has been indifferent, it has been harder to do that," the Vale boss told The Sentinel. "You need a decent side that is doing well to make it easier for the young boys. That means there is less pressure when they come into the team."However, Glover has no doubt as to his ability, adding: "James has a good football brain and has got stronger over the last 18 months. He can play in a couple of positions, be that off the striker 'in the hole' or out wide. Scoring the goal he did was like giving me a kick up the backside and him saying 'this is what I'm all about'. That's just what I want."
