Thompson at a loss over disarray

The long-serving coach was in charge for the first time since the controversial dismissal of Russell Slade on Monday.Asked whether he would continue at the helm for Saturday's League One game at home to Oldham, Thompson said: "I simply don't know. I have only had a chance to talk to the board about this match."I was told I would be in charge and I did ask if anyone was poised to come in as manager quickly. That doesn't seem to be the case."I will talk to the board again. Whether I want the job myself is a matter to discuss with my family and the club and I am not prepared to comment at this stage. It has been a difficult few days because Russell is a good friend, a good man and an excellent manager."But I felt the players couldn't be faulted for effort. We matched Rovers in most areas and were just undone by failure to defend set-pieces."
