Belgium door still ajar for Mpenza

The 30-year-old, who has scored 17 goals in 54 games for Belgium, was left out of the squad to face Slovenia on Wednesday because of a lack of football.Mpenza has been dogged by injury since joining Plymouth Argyle in the English second tier in September and has started only three matches. The former Standard Liege, Schalke and Manchester City player has not represented his country since June 2007, but Vandereycken is keeping the door "ajar".He told Het Nieuwsblad: "He was in the pre-selection but he didn't get enough time to play since then."We watched him twice, but there wasn't a lot to see. Emile has qualities to be an international, but he simply did not play enough to be in the squad."He is not definitively out of the team. We have always left the door ajar."
