11 questions we had as Barcelona made it to the Champions League final

Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 3-2 tonight, but it’s Barcelona who’ve reached the Champions League final with a 5-3 win over the two legs. It wasn’t anything like the craziness of the first-leg, but Bayern never gave up and for a small period of time had people really believing they could overcome the deficit. Here’s what people were asking. 1. Could they? Its next to impossible but everything is possible in football:) #BayernBarca — Talha (@Talah_mirza) May 12, 2015 This slightly baffling, clunky sentence actually summed up what we were thinking pre-kick off. They couldn’t, but also, they could? 2. Does Guardiola have the cure to the monster he created? how can u not have an antidote to your former creature pep?!!! #BayernBarca — NKATSE (@qwequabeiqu) May 12, 2015 Lionel Messi had a quiet night, and Barcelona had a very defensive second-half, distinctly lacking energy up front after Luis Suarez came off. Despite that, Guardiola’s efforts weren’t enough to stop the monster which he made. 3. Would Boateng recover? Boateng looks too cautious tonight already #BayernBarca — Gary (@garywarne) May 12, 2015 The answer was soon given as no. Boateng playing like he handed in his notice at work #BayernBarca — Az K (@AzTheBaz) May 12, 2015 He’s probably still a bit traumatised – what Messi did to him last week was rough. 4. Can the comeback REALLY be on?! Haha is this comeback really on?! #BayernBarca — Pat Bulbeck (@patbulbeck13) May 12, 2015 And this game just got interesting. #BayernBarca — SILV3R (@SILV3R) May 12, 2015 Bayern scored after just seven minutes. It looked like we were going to see a repeat of what happened against Porto in the previous round… But there was just eight minutes between Benatia’s goal and Neymar’s equaliser. Hope took just eight minutes to die. 5. Is Manuel Neuer the greatest keeper in the world? Or even on the pitch? That is the best double save i have ever seen! Absolutely fantastic goalkeeping! #BayernBarca #bbcfootball — Daniel Woodley (@dwoodley1990) May 12, 2015 He’s considered the world’s best now, but it was the German keeper at the opposite end who won the plaudits usually reserved for Neuer. Both made some great saves but it’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s double save, keeping his hand strong enough to block a shot after being sent the wrong way and then recovering to make sure the ball didn’t completely cross the line, which will be remembered. 6. Would life have been different with a bit of R&R? This matchup would be completely different if Ribery and Robben weren't hurt. #UEFAChampionsLeague #BayernBarca — Alex (@alexschmidty11) May 12, 2015 Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are undoubtedly the two players who give Bayern Munich their X Factor, and with both being injured neither figured in either leg against Barcelona. Would Bayern’s fate have been different had they been on the pitch? 7. Has Neymar got his Revenge now? Neymar is doing this to get back at Germany for how they did Brazil in the World Cup — Obi Wan Comeblowme (@Big_man_charles) May 12, 2015 Neymar was Brazil’s best player during the World Cup, but due to suffering an injury he wasn’t on the pitch when Germany mauled them 7-1. Perhaps he’ll consider this 5-3 thumping sufficient revenge? He scored both of Barcelona’s goals on the night, and sacrificed a hat-trick unselfishly trying to set up Messi at the end. 8. Can Andy Townsend say anything that *isn’t* completely obvious to the viewer? What do you reckon, Andy? #BayernBarca pic.twitter.com/w2FrpQdz8h — Paddy Power (@paddypower) May 12, 2015 Sadly after years of commentary we know the answer to this one. 9. Why do people dislike Thomas Muller? Irrational I know but I hate Thomas Muller !! #lufc #BayernBarca — Shane Larkin (@shanel23) May 12, 2015 It must be because they’ve never seen this: On top of his boundless energy, he’s got moves. Kind of. 10. When did Lionel Messi get that massive tattoo?! Ehhh where did the tattoo sleeve appear from on messi!!?? 😮⚽️ #BayernBarca — Christy (@CaskeyChristy) May 12, 2015 (Matthias Schrader/AP) A quick look back and it seems it could be quite old – we just never get to see him playing without long sleeves or thermals on. 11. And finally, will Messi and Guardiola ever reunite? "This management lark was much easier when you played for me…" #BayernBarca pic.twitter.com/Qiqa29M4gd — bwin (@bwin) May 12, 2015 It’s almost impossible to imagine Messi anywhere other than Barcelona, so that would mean Pep would have to return to the club where he won so much. We can see it happening one day, and we hope it does – they just look right together. Tomorrow night we’ll find out whether it will be Real Madrid or Juventus facing Barcelona in Berlin.
