Robinson - I'm a marked man

West Brom defender Paul Robinson believes he is a marked man by referees because of his past reputation. The 30-year-old has been sent-off nine times in his 479-game career, most recently against Manchester United at the Hawthorns at the end of January, a game which they ended up losing 5-0.The former Watford man was penalised for a challenge on Park Ji-sung but the decision was later rescinded on appeal.Despite avoiding a three-game ban the full-back is still frustrated that his robust style of play is immediately targeted by officials."Of course my past reputation is an issue and that frustrates me," he told the Express and Star."People know what I am like, I am fully committed and I will go into a tackle. But referees look for me, I know they do."I'm not stupid. As soon as that tackle against United went in, I knew what was going to happen.Respect"Whatever his feelings are towards me are down to him but the red card just can't happen. "They ask for respect but when you see decisions like that how can you have respect for referees."Robinson's red card against United was his second consecutive sending off he has had rescinded and the Baggies' stand-in skipper has called for greater punishments for officials who get decisions wrong. "We seem to get punished, but why do the referees not get punished for what they do?" he added."If you make a bad tackle you deserve to get your three-game ban. But if the referee makes a bad decision and a player gets sent-off and it's rescinded you hear nothing of it."All you hear is that they are refereeing the next week. For me it's got to work both ways, so either the referee gets banned or the player gets banned."At the time I knew it wasn't a foul, the Manchester United players knew it wasn't a foul and I think the whole of the crowd knew."But what can I say about the referee? Everyone knows what he is like and as a player you have to find it funny."But it could cost us in terms of goal difference and I was quite angry."
