Hodgson feels Bullard's pain

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has admitted he feels 'very sad' for long-term injury victim Jimmy Bullard. Bullard left Craven Cottage for Hull City in the winter transfer window, but his switch was dealt a major setback this week with the news that he will be out for the rest of the season. The midfielder has undergone knee surgery on a problem he picked up against West Ham United, in what is his second serious injury after he suffered cruciate ligament damage in 2006.Hodgson said on Sky Sports News: "It is sad news, I must say.Complaint"He wasn't really complaining so much about his knee during the month of January, it was his groin - because of the injury he picked up against Tottenham Hotspur, and that was affecting him."When he started training again, he then mentioned there was a slight tweak in the knee and he wasn't so comfortable with it."Basically he went to Hull and played, and I can only presume it was something that happened in the West Ham game that has either exacerbated that situation that he felt, or has provoked a totally new injury.Sad"It is really, really sad for him. It is sad for him in the sense that he worked so hard to get back to full fitness after being out for more than a year."He had a good year with us really. 2008 was a good year for him on the football field. As I said before, we weren't happy to see him go, but we had to respect his decision. "It is very sad that now he is going to face another further long spell on the touchline. I can only wish him well."
