Has Didier Drogba just proven most of Twitter wrong?

There probably wasn’t a single Chelsea fan not delighted by the news of Didier Drogba’s return to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the season, but the 37-year-old hasn’t exactly shone during the small amount of time he’s spent on the pitch since then. Until now, that was. Chelsea were losing 1-0 to Leicester at half-time and for the first 45 minutes Drogba could do no right in Twitter’s eyes. Drogba please, it's time to hang up your boots on the pitch! Go n coach uncle 😂😂😂😭 #LEICHE — Sammy Supernova (@NonNegotiable) April 29, 2015 Drogba is playing like a 67year old …#LeiChe @ChelseaFC — Matt Brooks (@Brooksy2050) April 29, 2015 Love Drogba but we cant be playing him up front for 90 minutes, might do well in the last 15 but this is taking it too far from Jose #LEICHE — Carefree (@Zoumagical) April 29, 2015 There is no more life in the old Drog #LEICHE — Fanuel Phiri jr (@Khwabe) April 29, 2015 TAKE DROGBA OFF! — ChelseaTalk (@TheBlues_Talk) April 29, 2015 I'd start Kurt Zouma ahead of Drogba upfront. — Mourinholic (@Mourinholic) April 29, 2015 Drogba needs to retire man — J R Smith (@BFooli) April 29, 2015 But then, as quickly as you can say Branislav Ivanovic, he scored. I apologise to drogba and his family — J R Smith (@BFooli) April 29, 2015 Due to Leicester’s goal coming so late in the first half, and Drogba’s so early in the first – a weird thing happened. Albrighton puts Leicester ahead on 47:30, Drogba equalises on 47:20. — Mike Holden (@Miguel_MCFC) April 29, 2015 The universe is probably going to implode because of it. There was a nice theory about why he managed to score with that attempt despite having looked so poor in everything else he’d done. Drogba no time to think on the goal and muscle memory does the rest. Been poor when he's had time — Chelsea Stats (@ChelseaStats) April 29, 2015 And it’s not all bad for Drogs. He’s still got quite the record, despite that being his first goal in 20 appearances. Didier Drogba has now scored 104 Premier League goals in 252 appearances for Chelsea. pic.twitter.com/VxHsgO9Oke — Squawka Football (@Squawka) April 29, 2015 Maybe Mourinho is the special one? That's why you lot ain't Managers ha ha #Drogba — 10th Mar 1905 (@10thMar1905) April 29, 2015 Just a minute or two later Drogba got another chance. Would the man who helped deliver Chelsea’s first two titles under Mourinho be the one to help seal the third? No. No he wouldn’t. Drogba from scoring to hitting a car in the car park 😂 — Harry (@Harry_Hazard) April 29, 2015 From 09/10 Drogba to 14/15 Drogba real quick — Boring Chelsea (@Thibauted) April 29, 2015 Drogba just went from Kane to Soldado — The Spurs Obsession (@LikeAHurriKane) April 29, 2015 So to answer the question posed in the headline – yes he did. But then, in one wild swipe, he ruined it all. We can’t imagine he’ll be too distraught though – Chelsea’s 3-1 win, with the other goals coming from John Terry and Ramires, means they’re now just three points away from the title. Roll on Sunday.
