Liverpool make Uefa request
Uefa will try to facilitate Liverpool's request of not playing a potential Champions League quarter-final on the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough Stadium disaster. Should Rafa Benitez's side progress at the expense of Real Madrid at the competition's last 16 stage, the second leg of the next round potentially falls on Wednesday 15th April.The club are planning to hold a memorial service on that night for the 96 Liverpool fans who died after being crushed during an FA Cup semi-final in Sheffield in 1989.Liverpool have made a request to European football's governing body to ensure any game involving the club would be played a day earlier on the Tuesday night."We have asked not to play on that date and that 14th April should be considered instead," a Liverpool spokesman told the club's official website."Uefa has replied acknowledging the significance of the date and confirming they will do their best to support our request if we progress."
