Arnison back in the picture at Darlington

The first game since Steve Staunton's exit sees Paul Arnison recalled to the side as one one of three changes against Aldershot Town this evening. Craig Liddle's first game in temporary charge sees right-back Arnison, who had been frozen out of the first-team picture under Staunton, selected ahead of Simon Madden. Irishman Madden is on the bench, as is Mark Convery who is another that Staunton had banished to train with the youth team in recent months. As well as Arnison, recalled are midfielder Gary Dempsey and striker Mor Diop with Ross Chisholm and Noel Whelan making way. Neither Chisholm or Whelan are on the bench and nor is Nathan Mulligan or John McReady who were among the substitutes during Saturday's game with Barnet. Liddle, Quakers' head of youth, is assisted by the club's centre of excellence manager Neil Maddison who has conducted the players' warm-up at The Northern Echo Arena. Aldershot are unchanged from the side which beat Shrewsbury Town 2-1 at home on Saturday, and they have stuck with the 4-4-2 formation that they introduced in the game. Kevin Dillon, a former Newcastle United midfielder, had previously used a 4-5-1 set-up, a formation used on the opening day of the season with the Shots winning 3-1, David Dowson scoring Quakers' only goal in what was Colin Todd's first match in charge. He was replaced in October by Staunton who lasted only 23 league games before chairman Raj Sinh axed the former Republic of Ireland manager on Sunday. Liddle has been handed the reigns for this evening's game but Singh hopes to make an appointment before Saturday's trip to Shrewsbury.
