Hermann claims Old Firm interest

Portsmouth defender Hermann Hreidarsson claims Celtic and Rangers tried to sign him in the January transfer window. Hreidarsson was looking a move away from Fratton Park last month after becoming increasingly frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities. The Icelandic international, who scored in Saturday's 2-0 win over Manchester City, is now back in the first-team fold, but his future remains uncertain with his contract due to expire in the summer. The former Ipswich and Charlton defender admits he would be interested in a move should either of the Glaswegian giants come calling."I fancied the idea of going to Rangers or Celtic," Hreidarsson told the Sunday Mail. "I had a word with Tony (Adams) but he wanted to keep me. I can't really say how far it got and whose interest was stronger."But I spoke to a few people on the phone and they definitely wanted me."Hreidarsson added: "My contract is up this summer and I'll be free to leave."If the chance came up again it's something I would consider."
