To Hull (Oldham) and back: I keep having fun...even at 40

The invitations have been going out for the 40th birthday party this week, a reminder, as if I needed it, that the clock is ticking on the playing career. But I've discovered there is a way to keep playing for a few more years - become a goalkeeper. Mark Crossley has been calling me 'Banksy' all week. Last week's stint between the sticks at Leicester was my third as emergency keeper and second clean sheet. Life begins at 40: Windass says the key to playing longer is becoming a keeperJohn Sheridan doesn't use a substitute keeper and I volunteered to take over in case Greg Fleming got injured or, as happened, sent off. When Flem went, Leicester had a penalty and as I've been on the receiving end of waiting for a new keeper to come on as penalty taker, the first plan was to mess about and waste time to put Matty Fryatt off. I even did a Grobbelaar knee wobble. It worked as he put it wide. I really want to enjoy my football at Oldham and playing in goal was great fun. I pulled off three decent saves, I think, and the banter with the Leicester fans behind the goal was brilliant. This week the lads found out we're wearing a new all-pink strip for the televised game with Leeds to raise money for the Victoria Breast Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital. We'll be auctioning the kits and Puma are supplying me with a pair of pink boots which I'll also put up on the club website. To Hull and back: Yes, we really have been, says Mrs WindassTo Hull and Back: I like TV work but Gordon Ramsay's the real pro
