Adams 'sacked by Pompey'

Sky Sports News understands Tony Adams has been sacked by Portsmouth. The club are expected to confirm his dismissal on Monday. Adams endured a difficult start to Premier League management after stepping up to the top job at Fratton Park in October following Harry Redknapp's departure to Tottenham Hotspur. The former Arsenal captain presided over a run of nine league games without a win which has left Pompey just a point outside the relegation zone.He also oversaw the holders' 2-0 home humbling by Swansea City in the FA Cup fourth round last month and there has been intense speculation about his future in recent weeks.Only last Monday, executive chairman Peter Storrie issued a statement to confirm Adams retained the board's support and called on the club to 'pull together'.And on Friday, Pompey again dismissed speculation about Adams' future after former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley was linked with the role. However, it is now understood that Adams will be formally dismissed on Monday following the 3-2 defeat at home by title challengers Liverpool at the weekend.Though Pompey are out of the FA Cup, the club are in action on Saturday 14th February as Manchester City visit Fratton Park in a rearranged game.
