James hoping for Sven

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James thinks that acquiring the services of former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson would be a huge step forward for the club. Pompey are searching for a new boss after Tony Adams was sacked due to a series of poor results. The Swedish manager has since been linked with a move to Fratton Park, but insisted he would stay in his current post as coach of Mexico until after the 2010 World Cup.However, Eriksson has come under pressure due to his side's recent form, which culminated in a 2-0 defeat by the USA on Wednesday night. The England goalkeeper now believes it would be the perfect time for the former Manchester City boss to make a return to the Premier League."Somebody of his calibre would be a tremendous acquisition for us," the 38-year-old said.Turn Around"Having a former England manager as manager of Portsmouth I'm sure is something that the fans would never have envisaged."Pompey were celebrating winning the FA Cup less than a year ago but now find themselves in the midst of a fight to stay in the Premier League. James is confident that Eriksson would be able to turn things around at Fratton Park if he was appointed. He added: "Things change very quickly in football. Last season we won the FA Cup and people were talking about the Champions League. Now we need to push up the table.""Fundamentally we are the same side so in some respects it is shocking to see the drastic change in form."Sven dropped me a few times, so it would be interesting if he did come in. But when you have players with the ability and quality we have, I think any manager of Sven's high calibre would turn a decent side into a good one again."
