ST MIRRENGALLACHER: Had little to do other than pick Kenny Miller's header out of the net. 6ROSS: Gave Saints a good outlet on the right. 6BARRON: The youngster gave a mature display on the right of St Mirren's three-man defence and showed great composure on the ball. Almost broke the deadlock with a 35-yard strike that hit the bar. 8POTTER: Beaten by Miller in the first half but the striker shot over, otherwise solid. 6MAIR: Comfortable on the ball but could not get back in time to prevent Miller's winner. 6CAREY: The on-loan Celtic wing-back has made a major impact at St Mirren but could have made more of several set-pieces. 6THOMSON: Hard-working display from the midfielder but could not cause problems in attacking third. 6MURRAY: Put himself about in midfield and got forward well with Neil Alexander saving brilliantly from his best chance. Taken off to avoid a second booking after being angered by an incident involving Lee McCulloch. 7BRADY: Played the simple ball and allowed St Mirren to enjoy good spells of possession. 7HIGDON: Caused Rangers problems in the air and in the channels. 7MEHMET: His presence unsettled Rangers at times but his best work was outside the box. 6Substitutes:DORMAN: Surprising omission but did not make the impact required after his 60th-minute introduction. 4DARGO: Lively display helped bring a red card for Danny Wilson but movement failed to engineer a chance against nine men. 5O'DONNELL: Came on after the goal but had little chance to shine. 4RANGERSALEXANDER: Almost caught being too clever by Jack Ross in the first half but made up for it with a crucial goal line block from Steven Thomson. 7.WHITTAKER: In the first half he linked up well with attack and defended when needed but faded after the break. 8.WEIR: Not getting any faster but read the game well as always and helped in some desperate defending later on. 7.WILSON: First-half mistake almost costly and struggled at times with the power of Michael Higdon and Billy Mehmet and merited his red card. 6.PAPAC: 6. Could not get forward in his usual style. 6.McCULLOCH: 6. Took a few early knocks which prevented him getting going and was booked for diving but helped shore up the Ibrox defence when he went back. 6.DAVIS: Apparently had a virus beforehand but was anonymous in the first half before being replaced by Edu. 5.THOMSON: Deservedly sent off after the break for a needless and lunging tackle on his St Mirren namesake Steven Thomson. 5.BOYD: 6. Did nothing until he was replaced by Naismith. 5.NOVO: 6. Worked tirelessly throughout in his usual fashion. 7.MILLER: 6. Missed the best chance of the first half but his textbook header took the cup back to Ibrox. 8.SUBSTITUTES:EDU: Replaced Davis at half time and worked hard. 6.NAISMITH: Laid on Miller's goal with a perfect cross. 7.SMITH: On too late to do anything. 5.
