Wigan's Antonio Valencia waits for Real Madrid to make their move

The Wigan midfielder is reportedly a £16 million transfer target for Madrid - a fee Steve Bruce's side would find almost impossible to turn down. "It would be a dream for Antonio to move to Real Madrid: a very beautiful opportunity," said Diego Herrera, Valencia's agent. "But until there is something official I don't want to say anything. "They haven't said anything to me. When there is an official announcement from someone with authority at Madrid, called (Predrag) Mijatovic or (Carlos) Bucero, telling us of an offer, then we will talk. "I have understood that Madrid want to close the signing that they are chasing during the first week of January. "We will see what will happen in the next few days."Real Madrid have already made two signings ahead of the January transfer window, bringing in Lassana Diarra and Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Valencia moved to Wigan initially on a season-long loan deal in 2006, which was then extended into the following season before the Premier League club shelled out an undisclosed fee for the former Villarreal player. Valencia's departure could pave the way for Jermaine Pennant's arrival at the JJB Stadium from Liverpool. Pennant reportedly turned down the chance to join Real Madrid after the club failed to match his wage demands. And though turning down Madrid to join Wigan would be a strange career choice, Bruce believes the player he managed at Birmingham could be tempted into a switch from Anfield.
