Ferguson to make check on Mawene

The French centre-back sustained a groin injury in last weekend's 3-2 home win over Nottingham Forest and subsequently missed the 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.Liam Chilvers deputised for Mawene against the Owls and may do so again but Ferguson has no other major concerns.Midfielder Barry Nicholson is still recovering from a long-term injury and North End travel to the Midlands unbeaten in five league matches.They have won only two of them, drawing three, but on-loan Manchester United United midfielder Matt James, 18, confidently declared: "We'll go to West Brom without fear and play our own game."
