I wish I'd signed for Arsenal, says exiled Tottenham midfielder Taarabt
Adel Taarabt claims it was a massive mistake to join Tottenham and says he should have signed for north London rivals Arsenal instead. In a damming interview with the Evening Standard, the on-loan Queens Park Rangers midfielder also went on to attack the quality of the Barclays Premier League, questioning the 'point' of teams such as Bolton, Stoke and Wolves. Taarabt, 20, also stated his desire to leave England at the end of season, vowing never to return to White Hart Lane. On loan: Taarabt has scored seven goals for Queens Park Rangers this seasonBut it will be Taarabt's remarks that he should have signed for Totenham's fiercest rivals which will infuriate their supporters. The Moroccan midfielder moved to White Hart Lane after meeting with Damien Comolli, formerly Arsenal's chief European Scout, before becoming Spurs director of football. Out of favour: Tarrabt is keen to leave Spurs 'I was going to go to Arsenal and Comolli was there with Wenger,' said Taarabt. 'But he went to Tottenham so I went there. That was a big mistake for me. My friends in England - like Armand Traore and Abou Diaby at Arsenal - told me Tottenham were not the right fit for me. 'The big mistake was to sign for Tottenham and not go to another club when I first came over.' After impressing then manager Martin Jol while on loan, Taarabt moved to Spurs on a permanent deal in the summer of 2007. But when Jol was given the boot the following October, the midfielder barely featured under Juande Ramos and was sent out on loan by Harry Redknapp. 'I don't want to go back to Tottenham,' Taarabt said. 'England is not for me, I think La Liga is the best League for me. '[I don't like] how they play in England, I like to play football! I look at teams like Bolton, Stoke or Wolves and say: There is just no point for me'. I hate that style of football. 'I have one more year on my contract this season and I hope that Tottenham make a deal in the summer. If not, I will go for free next summer. 'I hope to be playing for one of the top four in Spain next season - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Sevilla. I have contact with good teams and I know that they want me. Now I just have to hope they can agree a deal with Tottenham.'
