9 things we learned as Chelsea lost to 10-man Paris St Germain

Chelsea were unceremoniously dumped out of the Champions League after losing on away goals to 10-man Paris St Germain. Anyone but the loyalist of Chelsea fans will admit that PSG, one man down from the 31st minute, were the better side, twice coming from behind to end the ill-tempered last-16 tie at 2-2. They now enter the mix for the quarter finals along with Jose Mourinho’s previous clubs, Real Madrid and Porto, plus Bayern Munich which triumphed with a seven goal feast over Shaktar Donetsk. Here’s what we learned as the game progressed… 1. PSG can win without Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Andrew Matthews/PA) Ibrahimovic’s sending off sparked mass hysteria that the referee had bundled the decision and would reduce the game to a pantomime, but it turned out PSG coped admirably without him. (@Nigerianscamsss) March 11, 2015 Jose Mourinho – The new specialist in failure. 10 men vs 11 men, for 100 minutes and Chelsea lost. Out-played and out-bullied. — Lanre Issa-Onilu (@onailu07) March 11, 2015 Although 10 men can’t play 11 if the 11 is Bayern Munich it would seem… 7. It wasn’t as bad as the Shakhtar score (Matthias Schrader/AP/PA) So 3-3 on aggregate is better than losing 7-0, right? For anyone half keeping an eye on the other Champions League game there was a goal fest for Bayern Munich. Thomas Muller scored twice as Bayern Munich took advantage of an early red card to hammer Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 and sail into the quarter-finals. 8. *People stopped being happy to see David Luiz David Luiz is a ghost.
