What rating would Twitter give the Arsenal players after last night's performance?

Arsenal lost their first-leg Champions League game against Monaco 3-1, and really, they were lucky they even managed to get one. The colour-coded Monaco fans went home happy and the Arsenal players left the pitch to a chorus of boos. They weren’t just frustrated by 10 men parked in their way, they were ruthlessly shut out and countered on effectively. In some ways it was a naive performance, but you always felt that Arsenal would turn it on at some point, speed up the play and get back in the game. That wasn’t the case, and no one in that team can be happy with their performance. Here are their ratings, based on the – often harsh – tweets from the people of Twitter. David Ospina: 5 (Matt Dunham/AP) Left rooted for Monaco’s deflected goal, but got a hand to their third and should’ve kept it out. Wasn’t helped by a defence rarely in position. Don't blame Ospina. That mug Terry would have faced that ball square on. Mertesacker bottled it once again — Ken Livingstone (@KennethBrav) February 25, 2015 Ospina is one of them guys that wore school uniform on non school uniform days & everyone bullied him. — YUNG VUJ (@TheVujanic) February 25, 2015 Hector Bellerin: 4 (Nick Potts/EMPICS Sport) After much improved performances over recent weeks, Bellerin offered very little throughout the match. At a time when Arsenal clearly needed width, he opted to go inward with his runs – and Monaco’s second goal came down his side. Slice a chicken's head and take it to the emirates. It'll have the same heat map as bellerin from last night — Fab (@Femi_fabio) February 26, 2015 Why does Bellerin choose to play CB when we don't have the ball? Every time he plays now, our RB is wide open. #afc — Joe Adu (@joeman4ever) February 26, 2015 Per Mertesacker: 4 (Nick Potts/Empics Sport) You could say he was unlucky with the deflection for the second goal, but he might have been a bit braver with the block. Missing for the third. Mertesacker went that 3rd went in… pic.twitter.com/C0BQ9denkb — Rich Laverty (@RichJLaverty) February 25, 2015 Mertesacker just wanted to test his blistering pace out by going 40 yards out of position… — Footy Accumulators (@FootyAccums) February 25, 2015 mertesacker bottled it, you should be willing to firm one on the face with those ones. — clv. (@clvtno) February 25, 2015 Laurent Koscielny: 6 (Nick Potts/Empics Sport) Left with the task of carrying three other defenders, Koscielny did as well as he could’ve done. You were often left questioning which player the captain was, Mertesacker or the Frenchman. Koscielny does go up but at the right times. He is the only one that can discipline himself to stay back.😡😔 pic.twitter.com/0bzvQo8Oih — OKG (@OlivierKGooner) February 26, 2015 Koscielny was alone against 3 players at least three times in that match, why? See next tweet. — Fab (@Femi_fabio) February 26, 2015 Kieran Gibbs: 4 (Matt Dunham/AP) Nacho Monreal has been preferred to Gibbs over recent weeks, having been the more consistent of the two this season. Like Bellerin on the other side, he was often too high up the pitch and in the end his team paid for it. Gibbs offered nothing but mediocrity and complete lack of positional awareness. — Fab (@Femi_fabio) February 26, 2015 I was happy when i saw that Bellerin & Gibbs were playing but then when the game was over…different feeling. — Mieso (@Emiratesgooner1) February 26, 2015 52 seconds in to the game the look on Arsene's face when he seen Bellerin and Gibbs half way up the field was telling. — Best Since Day 1 (@KurtSymington10) February 26, 2015 Santi Cazorla: 7 (David Davies/PA) Arsenal’s best player in the first half, as he has been for much of the season, but gave the ball away too often in the second. The movement around him made it difficult for him to find the killer ball, and his box to box role, unlike in other games this year, didn’t help. What mad person would play cazorla as a Box to box midfielder. you cannot have both him and ozil on. common sense of balance — Mason George (@MasonGeorge3) February 26, 2015 Don't wanna nitpick but this Cazorla cm stuff is great but there will be games that's aren't for him. We weren't active enough in the middle — Ken Livingstone (@KennethBrav) February 25, 2015 Wenger consistently trying to shoehorn Ozil into the side is killing Arsenal. Forced Cazorla to play deep last night — Uyi (@APieNTheSky) February 26, 2015 Francis Coquelin: 6 (Nigel French/Empics Sport) A silly booking meant he was a little timid putting his foot in, and a bit slack with defensive responsibilities, but an okay performance. The way Coquelin kept bombing forward after we went 2-0absolutely mental — Nishanth Puzhankara (@NishanthGunners) February 26, 2015 Who's a Coquelin to the CL? No experience at all! He's just a promising talent! The potential is visible but we can't depend on him! — Mwangi wa Mwithiga〽 (@3three3HuffEvil) February 26, 2015 We are so useless we think Coquelin is Makelele. Credit to the lad he hadn't put a foot wrong but we need a mature player — Capt. Jalani (@sir_jabulani) February 26, 2015 Danny Welbeck: 6 (David Davies/PA) Had a good opportunity to score, but the shot deflected off Walcott. As always he offered a lot of running but very little final product, and needed more maturity to stay wide. WELBECK AGAIN SHOWED MORE HEART THAN MOST. #FilthyFellas — Poets Corner (@PoetsCornerUK) February 25, 2015 I don't get why is he playing Welbeck ahead of Theo on the right? Can somebody please tell me — Highbury Ghost (@arsenalaction) February 26, 2015 Welbeck has 99 problems and scoring is all of them. #AFCvMON — shanshi (@IFree_think) February 26, 2015 Mesut Ozil: 5 (Matt Dunham/AP) Ozil really offered nothing throughout the match, and as usual his body language didn’t help his cause. All fans want to see is effort, and the stats would suggest he gave it – covering more kilometres than any other Arsenal player – but he was anonymous when it mattered. Ozil was absent. I'm guessing all them kilometres covered were from him running away from the ball. Please. — © (@MrMeeds) February 26, 2015 Slept on my disappointment, realised that Players like Ozil were brought for nights like that… AGAIN never turned up. — Gem (@gfjc3po) February 26, 2015 People kidding themselves if they think that was in some way down to Ozil. He's had some bad games but was by no means the worst vs Monaco. — John Cross (@johncrossmirror) February 25, 2015 ozil was one of the best players in the world. like, the whole world, now look, i forgot he was playing. — clv. (@clvtno) February 25, 2015 Alexis Sanchez: 6 (Matt Dunham/AP) Along with Cazorla he looked Arsenal’s only real threat. Sanchez created two chances for Giroud, one from a cross and one from a shot. Needed help. SANCHEZ IS PROBABLY GOING MAN CITY NEXT WEEK. #FilthyFellas — Poets Corner (@PoetsCornerUK) February 25, 2015 Sanchez' desire to keep going will always be admirable👌 — Manny (@FIFAManny) February 25, 2015 I WANT TO FIGHT EVERY SINGLE ARSENAL PLAYER APART FROM SANCHEZ & CAZORLA CAUSE IM SCARED THEYLL LEAVE — Jama (@MadeManJama) February 25, 2015 Olivier Giroud: 3 (David Davies/PA) One of his worst performances in an Arsenal shirt, on a night when he should’ve gotten at least one goal. We don’t think a player has looked more embarrassed after being substituted. Think Gary Neville's commentary captured everyone's thoughts after that miss by Giroud. "Oh my God." — Tony Barrett (@TonyBarretTimes) February 25, 2015 6 – Olivier Giroud's total of six shots tonight is the most he has ever recorded in a CL game. All six, though, were off target. Spurned. — OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) February 25, 2015 Giroud's performance last night summed up… pic.twitter.com/GXoZxOrpZU — Ryan Fatone (@rfatone1) February 26, 2015 AND GIROUD WAS PLAYING RUGBY. ITS A JOKE #FilthyFellas — Poets Corner (@PoetsCornerUK) February 25, 2015
