Who's predicting derby wins for Arsenal and Liverpool this weekend?

Paul Gascoigne famously said “I never predict anything and I never will”, but Bing – the search engine from Microsoft – has no such qualms. Using Cortana – that’s the Windows version of Siri – Bing Predicts is predicting the results of this weekend’s derby matches, and it doesn’t look good if you’re a fan of Everton or Tottenham. Everton v Liverpool (Microsoft) Bing isn’t exactly going out on a limb here – Liverpool are, believe it or not, the league’s form team and have won more points that anyone else since Christmas. Everton, meanwhile, have only won one of their last seven. Still, it’s a derby, and you know exactly where the form book goes for derbies. Is there a quote heard more in the build up to a derby than "the form book goes out of the window in a derby" — John Bradley (@JBcommentator) February 5, 2015 Tottenham v Arsenal (Microsoft) We don’t know where to start with this one, so we’re glad to have Bing on hand to give us some tips. Both teams have only lost once since Christmas, and both have recent experience of winning good games – Tottenham against Chelsea and Arsenal against Manchester City. If we were pushed, we’d go for a 1-1 draw (derbies always seem to finish 1-1), so we’ll tip our hat to Bing if it gets this one right. Two derbies in the Premier League today and two 1-1 draws. Did you go to a game today? Are you satisfied with the result? — The Offside Rule (@OffsideRulePod) September 27, 2014 If you’re wondering how Bing comes up with its predictions, it’s a data model that used a combination of factors including what people are saying on social media, search trends and historical game data. It’s been used in the past to correctly predict the outcome of the Scottish referendum and results at the World Cup. So there you have it – Arsenal and Liverpool are definitely going to win. Probably.
