The FA Cup draw was on the One Show - and football was not happy

The BBC are very pleased to have regained the rights to the FA Cup. So pleased, in fact, that they got Gary Lineker to bring the cup itself onto the Graham Norton Show on Friday. Actually they’re so happy that they featured the fifth round draw on, erm… hang on. Great to have the FA Cup draw back at it's traditional slot on The One Show. — gary-pye (@Pye1977) January 26, 2015 That’s right, the final sixteen clubs of this season’s FA Cup found out who they were facing on the One Show. For anyone who’s never caught the One Show, here’s what an interview with dream-team Matt Baker and Alex Jones did to poor Bruce Willis. Suffice to say that not everyone was happy that the “greatest knock-out tournament in football” was being decided on those luridly colourful couches. They talk about clubs devaluing the FA cup. The FA do that better than anyone. Putting the draw on the One Show tops all previous debacles — Mike Wilson (@Redsmail) January 26, 2015 It just seems wrong that the best weekend the FA Cup has had in years will culminate in the 5th round draw taking place on The One Show. — Tony Barrett (@TonyBarretTimes) January 25, 2015 The FA Cup is becoming a joke! The draw took place on The One Show and they actually got a fan from each club to shake hands! 🙈😷 — Daniel Hopper (@DanielH_LUFC) January 26, 2015 Yes, they did do that. But in fairness it didn’t really matter what they did, since high audience figures were pretty much guaranteed. The One Show – Most of the male population in the UK is watching to see who there team gets in the FA Cup! Unless your a Chelsea fan 🙊😳😂 ha — Michael Ratcliffe (@MikeRatters123) January 26, 2015 However, not everyone was feeling very comfortable about having to watch the One Show to get their football fixture fix. Need to draw the curtains earlier so neighbours don't catch me watching tabloid TV for FA Cup Draw on The One Show. How low can you stoop? — Chris Foster (@CFozzyFoster) January 26, 2015 Actually, drawing the curtains early to hide from the neighbours and then tweeting what you’re watching anyway seems a little counter-productive to us… However, not everyone was properly hating on the One Show (even when Matt Baker adopted his jolliest “Blue Peter” persona). Frankly, some fans thought football had more things to worry about than what Alex Jones and Gary Lineker were up to. Of all the wrongs in the footballing world, the FA Cup draw being on the One Show is very low down the list. — Scott Stonehouse (@Stonehouse88) January 26, 2015 And actually, Shay Given quite liked it. Looking forward to the FA cup draw now on BBC1 #facupdraw — Shay Given (@No1shaygiven) January 26, 2015 Although the way he’s worded that tweet, we’re not sure he realised it was on the One Show when he sent it…
