Ramsey injury an accident - Fergie

Arsene Wenger rounded on Shawcross in the immediate aftermath of the incident, claiming the Stoke defender's challenge was "unacceptable" and deserving of more than a three-match ban.Shawcross had left the field in tears after being shown a red card and he was so upset in the dressing room that he was driven home by his mother before the game at the Britannia Stadium had even finished. The 22-year-old has been backed by a number of managers and fellow professionals, though, and Ferguson, who rang the former Manchester United starlet after the game, has told him not to beat himself up over the incident."We had him here since he was a kid at 13," said Ferguson. "There isn't a more honest boy in the world."Everyone has recognised it was an honest challenge, with no malice whatsoever."It is one of these unfortunate, terrible accidents that happen in football."Ryan was distraught and you would think that registered with the Arsenal players."But it didn't and he has had to carry that burden."But he can hold his head up. He knows he is not that kind of player."Cesc Fabregas was critical straight after the game, before Wenger weighed in with his own contribution but Ferguson can understand why the Frenchman made his comments."Arsene is uptight. You can see that," said the United boss."He was tense. These moments of emotion can affect you a bit."Quite rightly he is obviously feeling for the player. I would feel the same for my own."Ferguson does know what Wenger felt like, having seen Alan Smith stretchered off at Anfield in 2006.That really was a freak incident, as Smith suffered a compound fracture of his leg as he charged out to block a John Arne Riise free-kick.But his subsequent recovery does offer Ramsey hope he will eventually return."Alan Smith's injury was the worst I have ever seen on a football field," he said."When Bobby Charlton and I went into the treatment room I was dreading going in."I saw his ankle one way and his leg the other, yet Alan is sitting there as calm as can be. There was not a bit of emotion."It may have been shock but I suppose because I was walking around thinking he was finished."You saw his leg and you wondered how he could come back from that. But he has." Man. Utd 1/3, Draw 4/1, Wolves 9/1
